A 5-year view of camper sentiment
What's driving the trend: Atmosphere & crowd
Based on Google Reviews · May 2021 - May 2026 · 277 reviews
A reliably mellow atmosphere is what anchors the experience here, with 50 reviewers over five years consistently describing Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area as pleasant, if not particularly standout, on the crowd and vibe front. The steady run of feedback on amenities—35 mentions—and the strong, if infrequent, praise for staff interactions (9 mentions, almost all positive) reinforce a sense of predictability that many campers value. Site maintenance has drawn more mixed reactions, especially in the most recent year, but remains a secondary thread. If you’re booking now, what you read in recent reviews is what you’ll get: a campground that delivers on its core promise of a low-key, welcoming environment, with few surprises on either end of the spectrum.
The CampRecord is generated through analysis of public guest reviews spanning multiple years. Patterns described reflect themes observed in reviewer feedback over time and should be considered alongside other research when planning a stay.

Gravel or grass surfaces, primarily back-in with some walk-in and group sites. 30 and 50 amp electric available, no full hookups (no water or sewer at sites), dump station and potable water available. Site length varies.
Some are long enough for tow vehicle and rig, others require 'extreme measures' to level. Spacing generally described as spacious, some pads uneven.
Bring a robust leveling system—many sites are not level. No food service in the park.
Closest town is about 4 miles away. Cabins available to rent as an alternative. Office sells ice, wood, worms, soda, and candy. Weekend boat rentals require full-day commitment. Visit the nearby vineyard in Highland. Playgrounds in both sections are basic but well maintained.
