Rig tip: Most sites require a significant amount of leveling for larger rigs; bring blocks and confirm site grade before setup.
Guests describe the bathrooms and campsites as clean and well maintained, highlighting a pattern of consistent care throughout the park. The grounds tend to be spacious and free of significant litter. While some campers note issues with raccoon activity, this is a low-severity and relatively common experience for campers in wooded settings. Overall, cleanliness stands out as a reliable strength at Blue Mound State Park.
Campers report that amenities such as the pool, splash pad, observation towers, and hiking trails are a highlight of their stay, with most features matching or exceeding expectations. Families particularly appreciate the variety of play and recreational options available. Some guests mention that towers are not handicap accessible and trails can get muddy in certain seasons, but these are noted as minor drawbacks rather than major shortcomings. Overall, amenities meet the advertised standards and contribute to a positive experience.
Guests do not report significant issues with staff interaction and often describe check-in and arrival as straightforward and pleasant. While specific praise is limited, there are also no patterns of staff-related complaints. This suggests staff maintain a helpful and friendly presence, contributing to a comfortable stay. The overall sentiment indicates that staff quality matches camper expectations.
Campers report a pattern of confusion around signage and wayfinding as well as frustration with campsite levelness, as some sites are not as flat as descriptions may suggest. While there are no documented complaints of booking errors or surprise fees, the recurring issues with on-site navigation and site characteristics contribute to a moderately mixed experience. Guests may need extra diligence in selecting specific sites and navigating the park.
Reviews suggest the campground offers a consistently peaceful atmosphere, which many guests highlight as a core benefit. Most visitors report quiet conditions both day and night, aided by the park’s spacious layout and wooded setting. Occasional enforcement lapses are mentioned but do not form a significant pattern. The general consensus is that Blue Mound State Park excels in providing a tranquil camping environment.
Campers report challenges with inconsistent site levelness, limited electric reliability in older sections, and no water or sewer hookups at individual campsites. Many guests must plan for extra driving to access dump stations and potable water. While newer or upgraded sites offer improved electric service and flatter pads, these strengths do not offset the recurring inconvenience for most RVers. Campers should be prepared for variability in hookup quality depending on site selection.
A strong consensus emerges across review platforms, with Blue Mound State Park receiving consistently high ratings from campers. The weighted community rating reflects broad satisfaction with both the facilities and overall experience. Many guests signal their intent to return, adding further evidence to the park’s solid reputation. The high combined score speaks to a loyal and positive camper community.

Before You Arrive

Site surfaces include gravel, asphalt, and dirt. Most sites are back-in with a few noted as longer but often require disconnecting for larger rigs. Power is available (mostly 30 or 50 amp).

Water and sewer connections are not at sites—single dump and potable water station at campground exit. Site spacing is consistently described as spacious with shade and wooded privacy, but levelness is variable: many sites not level, with some newer/renovated ones reported as flatter.

Check out the Mt. Horeb farmers market on weekends. Drive into Mount Horeb for good food, shopping, and a craft beer at The Grumpy Troll. Expect winding, narrow access roads, especially with large rigs. The dump station and fresh water tap are only at the exit—plan water fills accordingly. Sites near pit toilets may have odor.

Avoid if sensitive.

A well-loved, scenic state park with stellar trails, views, and family amenities, but outdated infrastructure may disappoint some RVers.
