Reviews suggest the bathrooms and grounds are generally well maintained, with guests describing clean facilities and attractive landscaping. Some concerns arise regarding lake cleanliness, particularly goose feces and a mucky bottom, but these do not appear to affect the overall impression of cleanliness at the campground.
Campers appreciate the range of amenities, including a heated pool, lake access, and activities for all ages. However, multiple reviews note maintenance issues with the mini golf course, occasional pool problems, and a lack of laundry facilities. Guests also mention frustration with extra charges for WiFi and other features, which impacts the overall amenity experience.
Guests report mixed experiences with staff. While some describe the staff as friendly and supportive, others complain about rude and unprofessional behavior from the owner and management. Reports of disorganization and communication issues further affect perceptions of staff quality.
Reviews consistently highlight chaotic and confusing booking experiences, with unclear communication about policies, deposits, and refunds. Campers report difficulty getting answers, especially when staff members are filling in for management. Pet policy confusion and lost deposits are also recurring issues, leading to significant frustration with the reservation process.
Campers report frequent disturbances from late-night parties, especially among seasonal campers, which often continue despite complaints. Families mention that noise kept their children awake and that management did not address these issues, resulting in a consistently poor experience for those seeking a peaceful environment.

Campers describe a strong sense of community, especially among seasonal guests, with themed weekends and group activities fostering a family-friendly atmosphere. However, some guests feel excluded or disturbed by the party culture, particularly when it disrupts quiet hours or family experiences.

Campers are split on staff and owner interaction, and the numbers at Hickory Hills Campground reveal why: out of 41 reviews mentioning this theme since 2021, some describe warm, helpful hosts while others report inconsistent or frustrating encounters—sometimes in the same year. The most recent 10 reviewers on this topic leaned more positive than those in earlier years, but the swings from year to year keep the experience unpredictable. Amenities and activities, noted in 30 and 21 reviews respectively, remain a steady highlight, with few complaints and consistently upbeat feedback. If you’re considering a stay, read recent reviews specifically about staff and management to get a sense of which side of the experience you might land on.

The CampRecord is generated through analysis of public guest reviews spanning multiple years. Patterns described reflect themes observed in reviewer feedback over time and should be considered alongside other research when planning a stay.

Before You Arrive

Site surfaces are gravel, grass, and dirt. Sites include both back-in and pull-through options. Power is available at sites, with some reporting only 30 amp service. Some sites are just long enough for a fifth wheel (may require disconnect) or fit a 38 ft motorhome with toad. Sewer hookups present on some sites but may require a 25’ hose. Spacing varies: some sites are spacious, others very close or nearby.

Watch for small children everywhere while driving. Exit of the campground can be tricky but staff can help guide you out. Only grocery store close by is a Piggly Wiggly in the next town. Edgerton offers dining and RV repair options about 4 miles away. Madison and Janesville are worth visiting for shopping and sightseeing. Edgerton Depot is recommended for coffee.

Edgerton Pharmacy is convenient for first aid and sundries.

Exit is tricky and roads are narrow — request staff guidance and bring 25-foot sewer hose.

A family-focused, activity-rich campground with strong staff loyalty but persistent guest friction regarding management and inconsistencies in amenities.
