Campers report mixed experiences with cleanliness. While some guests describe bathrooms and showers as clean, others note that certain facilities, such as the lower bathhouse, have been out of order for years and that grounds maintenance can be inconsistent, with long grass and occasional untidy fire pits. The score reflects both positive feedback on some facilities and ongoing frustrations with neglected areas.
Reviews suggest significant disappointment with the amenities. Guests repeatedly mention that a second pool and lower bathroom/shower buildings have been closed or neglected for years, despite being advertised. The remaining pool can get crowded, and some amenities shown online are no longer available, leading to frustration about outdated or misleading information.
Guests consistently praise the staff for being friendly, accommodating, and willing to go above and beyond to help with requests like extending stays. Many reviewers highlight positive interactions with the office and note that staff members are approachable and helpful, which stands out as a major strength of the campground.
Campers report several issues with the booking process, including misleading site assignments, unexpected extra fees for reserving specific sites, and frustration with outdated or unclear reservation information. Some guests reserved pull-through sites but were assigned back-in spots, and others felt the additional charges for site selection were excessive. These patterns contribute to a low booking score.
Guests describe a mixed experience with noise levels. Some mention traffic and noise from nearby roads, including trucks and golf carts, which can disrupt the peaceful atmosphere, especially for sites near the roadway. However, not all reviewers report noise issues, leading to a balanced score.
Campers report generally adequate hookups, with most sites offering water and electric service. However, there are occasional complaints about hard, bad-tasting well water with a sulfur smell, and some seasonal guests mention only getting water and electric hookups even when full hookups appear available. Sewer connection height and pad quality are rarely mentioned as problems.
Guests describe a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with staff and other campers contributing to a positive community vibe. Families and returning visitors appreciate the kid-friendly environment and the sense of camaraderie among guests. The campground's social environment is a highlight for many.

The amenities story here is anything but predictable, with 22 reviewers since 2021 split between stretches of praise and a sharp dip in year three, when six reviewers all flagged issues in this category. Neshonoc Lakeside Campground’s most recent feedback—just three amenities mentions in the past year—leans positive again, but the low volume keeps the signal uncertain. Meanwhile, site quality and maintenance have drawn 18 comments over five years, most of them lukewarm or critical, and that thread has never fully rebounded. In contrast, atmosphere and crowd feedback has remained consistently upbeat, with 19 reviewers highlighting a reliably pleasant vibe. If you’re booking, it’s worth reading recent reviews about amenities and site upkeep to see which side of the split you might land on.

The CampRecord is generated through analysis of public guest reviews spanning multiple years. Patterns described reflect themes observed in reviewer feedback over time and should be considered alongside other research when planning a stay.

Before You Arrive

Site surfaces are gravel, grass, dirt, or concrete. Both back-in and pull-through sites are present. Power availability is typically 50/30/20 amp, with FHU and partial hookup sites (water, electric, some without sewer). Sites described as 'spacious' or 'quite a bit longer than rig and tow vehicle,' suitable for big rigs and long fifth wheels. Spacing is usually 'spacious' or 'nearby' between sites.

Call ahead to ensure your site fits your rig. Bike the Great River Trail. Linda's Bakery is locally beloved. Large grocery options and local restaurants (Big Boar BBQ, Sullivans Supper Club, Milwaukee Burger Company, Mextaco) nearby. Non-lake view sites still have nice grounds.

Choose upper hill for views. Bring a water filter or avoid using campground water due to taste/smell. Check office/arrival hours especially in shoulder season. Firewood can be a long walk from some sites.

Entrance hill is steep with a tight approach — long combos should take the turn wide.

Beautiful family-friendly campground with great staff and amenities, but maintenance lapses and amenity reductions are putting its reputation at risk.
